"Turkey"
Dear WB:
Origins Guy is quite simply incorrect when he states that wild turkeys (Letters to WB, Summer 2000) are easy to hunt because they are so stupid. The domestic fowl is, indeed, extremely stupid, but the wild fowl is wily and extremely hard to hunt. Experienced turkey hunters are by no means assured of bagging their limit every season — in fact, given the bird’s tendency to explode out of the underbrush when least expected, it could be argued that a certain number of wild turkeys are, in fact, responsible for a small number of hunter self-inflicted wounds each year.
