Small Gestures

by Carolyn McKay

      last night I dreamt
we danced in the kitchen
      round and round
my feet on top of yours
but you didn't seem to mind

      when I awoke
your wispy trace remained
      and I almost forgot
the sink full of dirty dishes

      I dreamt last night
you kissed my hand
      and that small gesture
meant more to me
      than anything The End

          ***

by Carolyn McKay

I wish that I could preserve this moment
Like jam.
I'd spread it on toasted muffins
And eat it for breakfast. The End
