Could You Be the Next Origins Guy?

Writer’s Block has an opening for a new Origins Guy. We are searching for a volunteer who can write well, who is witty, and has an interest in the origins of words and phrases, especially Canadian words and phrases!

The new Origins Guy must

  • demonstrate his or her own distinct style;
  • take care not to duplicate words that have appeared in past Origins columns;
  • be prepared to participate in radio interviews (past OGs have been interviewed on CBC radio);
  • commit to supplying four columns per year, either all at once or by the submission deadlines provided in our editorial calendar.
Origins columns should not exceed 1,000 words. Your name and a short bio will accompany each column. All columns will be edited for content, grammar, and style.

If you think you could be the next Origins Guy, send a sample of your work (up to 500 words) to us by 30 July, 2001. Be sure to accompany your sample with a short explanation of why you would like to become the next OG.

Note: Samples of your work will not be published without your permission.The End
