Corrupted Words

Watch for commonly used corruptions of existing words that were perfectly acceptable before writers started meddling with them. Below, the first usage is correct; the second is the "meddled" version:

• preventive vs. preventative
• prioritize vs. priorize
• use vs. utilize
• dependence vs. dependency
